Knowledge in P.E

We aim to offer a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring all pupils are productive and have a positive experience of Physical Education, which will contribute to their life choices in later life. We encourage pupils to celebrate their progress and be proud of their achievements while representing LMHS at competitions and events.

Pupils are challenged physically to improve and refine simple and complex skills across invasion games, net/wall games and striking and fielding games. The importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle is consistently reinforced to pupils of all ages and abilities.
Curriculum in P.E

By the end of Key Stage 3, pupils will have learnt, developed and refined key skills that are transferable across a variety of sports. Pupils will have a diverse experience in Physical Education at Lea Manor High School with enjoyment always being the primary aim. Pupils will complete 6 sports throughout an academic year. These sports include and change depending on class: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Fitness, Football, OAA, Rounders and Rugby. Pupils will also complete a theory unit once every term learning about: Mental Health and Wellbeing, Diet and Nutrition and Sedentary Lifestyles and Physical Activity. Pupils also have the opportunity to compete in interform competitions during their PE lessons once a term.

KS4 pupils who pick PE as their option, will follow the NCFE Health and Fitness specification before completing an NEA and exam.

Teaching and Learning in P.E

During each topic, pupils will engage with individual, paired and group learning activities that all require different levels of knowledge and skill in sport and physical activity. Each sport that is taught is selected at department level, ensuring that there are a variety of sports on offer, without compromising teachers’ specialisms. Each sport in the curriculum will involve mastery of a key skill in isolation and the ability to transfer that mastered skill into competitive practice. Each lesson is scaffolded so that individual skills are consistently being built upon and pupils gain all important knowledge to be able to articulate their understanding. Pupils are consistently introduced to new vocabulary and key terms to deepen their understanding of the topic.

Assessment in P.E Pupils are consistently assessed during their Physical Education lessons and feedback is given verbally, both collectively as a class, as well as individually in order to refine key skills. Pupils will also be asked to peer assess during their lessons to further develop their understanding. At the end of each half term, KS3 pupils are formally assessed on the sport they have just completed. Pupils are assessed on the skills they have learnt in isolation and also how they transfer them into competition. Alongside this, pupils will be expected to articulate their understanding of topics clearly. KS4 pupils will be assessed at the end of each unit with topic tests to identify any gaps in their knowledge.
Learning Beyond the Classroom in P.E

Our aim is to produce lifelong learners who are equipped with the skills and qualities to enable them to confidently lead physically, socially and mentally healthy and active lifestyles after their time at Lea Manor High School. To aid this goal, we offer a variety of extracurricular clubs throughout the academic year that coincide with our LSSA fixtures. Lea Manor High School also has numerous links with local clubs and schemes for a wide range of sports. Lea Manor High School encourages parents/carers to support their children in leading a healthy lifestyle by attending extra-curricular clubs and keeping active.
